If you enjoy gardening, take a break over the Fourth of July weekend and enjoy these jokes and remarks about your hobby!

The best way to garden is to put on a wide-brimmed straw hat and some old clothes. And with a hoe in one hand and a cold drink in the other, tell somebody else where to dig.

Why do potatoes make good detectives? Because they keep their eyes peeled.

What do you get if you divide the circumference of a pumpkin by its diameter? Pumpkin pi.

What do you call a stolen yam? A hot potato.

A weed is a plant that has mastered every survival skill except for learning how to grow in rows.

Everyone has these on their face? Tulips

What vegetable can tie your stomach in knots? String beans.

What did the carrot say to the wheat? Lettuce rest, I’m feeling beet.

What kind of socks does a gardener wear? Garden hose.

What does the letter “A” have in common with a flower? They both have bees coming after them.

Happy Fourth of July from Centennial Roofing!

The federal government is pushing its green, energy saving initiatives. They’re trying to reduce our impact on the earth, and they’re trying to reduce your utility bills!

Thankfully, conserving energy doesn’t have to be a difficult process. You can begin living a “greener” lifestyle by just making a few small changes.

For example, here are a few tips on how you can help the environment and your wallet:

Tip: Change your heating and air conditioning system’s filters regularly! A dirty filter will slow air flow and make your system work harder to keep you warm or cool, which wastes energy.

Tip: Seal your home! Air filtration is a major source of energy loss. Caulk or weather strip around doors and windows. Large amounts of conditioned air will escape from these seemingly small openings.

Tip: Keep your air registers open! Make sure all of your registers are clearly open, so that conditioned air can reach all segments of your home. Also, make sure that furniture is not positioned over any registers, which would reduce airflow.

Tip: Remember how the sun can help or hurt you! In the summer, keep your shades down; the sun can drastically increase the temperature. In the winter, keep your shades open. The sun can raise the temperature of your home without your furnace needing to run quite as often.

Tip: Open a window! During times of the year where the weather may be hot during the day, but cool during the evening, shut off your air conditioner after the sun goes down.

Tip: Install ceiling fans! Ceiling fans can make a room feel much cooler without using nearly as much electricity. This allows you to keep your thermostat a little higher in the summer. During the winter, you can reverse your ceiling fan, which will push the warm air back down.

Tip: Use window fans in the summer! They can be a great compliment to ceiling fans. Window fans are best used when facing away from the wind and exhausting hot air from your home.

Tip: Landscape your home based upon your environment! If you live in a warm climate, you might consider planting trees or shrubs near your house. They provide shade for your home and reduce the sun’s impact. In colder climates, consider planting trees or building a fence that might help block the wind from infiltrating your home. If the wind is cold enough, it too could cause your house temperature to further drop.

These tips will help reduce the amount of energy your home uses. However, if you’re serious about becoming environmentally responsible, call Centennial Roofing at 972-223-1765. We can show you some significant improvements that can be made to your roof to increase your home’s overall energy efficiency, which will help the environment and reduce your utility bills!

It’s a terrible feeling. No one ever wants to experience it. You’re driving along a lonely stretch of highway; you haven’t seen anyone for miles. Suddenly, your car starts making a funny sound, and it isn’t running quite right.

You don’t worry at first.

Several miles down the road, smoke pours out from under your car’s hood, and the warning lights on your dashboard illuminate like a Christmas tree. Before you know it, your car loses acceleration and dramatically slows down. You’re about to become stranded on the side of a road. Hopefully, you have a well charged cell phone that you can use to get help.

But what happens if it’s running low? Even then, if you’re in the middle of nowhere, how much is it going to cost to tow your car all the way to a service station? And at that point, can you trust the service station you’re stuck at? You’ll have to hope they won’t try and take advantage of you.

A fear of this situation is what makes most people take very good care of their cars. You have yours inspected each year, and you have its oil changed regularly. Should any little lights pop up on your dash, you’re sure to have it in the shop the next day—no need to take any chances! You do this all because you depend on your car; plus, it’s an expensive piece of machinery!

Well, here’s another scenario that all people should hope to avoid: You return home after a hard day of working. You walk in to see a huge mess in your living room. It’s soaked with water. Your HDTV, your stereo, your expensive carpet—they’re all wet. Where’s the water coming from? Then you look up. Your roof has leaked! You’re stuck with a big, expensive mess.

Fortunately, there’s a very easy way to avoid this potential headache. Just like your car, your roof requires regular inspection and occasional maintenance. It’s an important part of your home that you count on to keep your family dry and safe.

When it is well taken care of, it’s highly likely you’ll never have any trouble. Now, if you’re reading this article, you’re probably a regular client of ours. And you know the value of roof inspections. If you’ve never had us visit your home—or if you have a friend or loved one who hasn’t experienced our professionalism—give Centennial Roofing a call at 972-223-1765.

Do your best to eliminate the likelihood of a roof leak! Give us a call at Centennial Roofing for a full-scale evaluation. Just like your car, your roof is something hugely important to you. Treat it well, and you’ll drastically reduce the possibility of any future problems!

It’s getting to be a real problem in our world today.

Innocent homeowners call contractors looking to have work performed on their home. A service person shows up, and the homeowner doesn’t think twice about letting that person into their home. They presume that person is honest and coming to help them with their problem.

All too often these seemingly innocent calls turn tragic. Not long ago, I heard about a Florida woman who was killed by a registered sex offender who was performing work in her home. In another instance, a service technician in the Minneapolis area was convicted on several counts of stealing from customers’ homes.

In yet another story, an unsuspecting housewife in Missouri hired a contractor only to have him call back two weeks later and make lewd remarks over the telephone. What if this guy had done more than just make telephone calls? You don’t think about this possibly happening until it’s too late.

No one should feel uncomfortable at home alone with a service technician. You and your family deserve to be safe; to live life without fear. Women home alone with small children, the elderly, or the disabled shouldn’t have to be wary of their security when calling a contractor.

As a person who’s been in this industry for years, it sickens me that this has become an issue… but it has. Knowing this, Centennial Roofing has made a commitment to you and all of our loyal customers. You will never have to worry about someone from our company that enters your home or be concerned about their true intentions.

Every employee at Centennial Roofing is background checked and regularly drug tested. No criminal or drug addict will ever wear one of our uniforms. We have one of the most difficult hiring processes around, and only people of high moral character are given the opportunity to be employed by Centennial Roofing.

We then take these hard working people and provide them with the best technical and communication training offered in the country. So, you’ll know that when one of our people shows up, they’re upstanding citizens who are eager and able to help you with any and all of your home’s needs.

Many contractors in the home services business do not bother to practice such stringent policies, but that’s what distinguishes us from the rest.

When you call Centennial Roofing at 972-223-1765, you know you’re dealing with a professional who cares about your personal safety, the safety of your family, and the well-being and security of your home. We feel that’s the least we can do for you.

Sincerely, Steve

If you’ve owned your home for some time, you know its regular maintenance can be a challenge, too. Something always needs to be fixed or you’re looking to make a few small improvements. But, if you’re like most people, it’s the decision when to make the big home improvements that is the most difficult.

Your home will likely be the biggest asset you will ever own. It provides you with a place to raise a family, and you can’t forget its most basic function: It protects you from the environment and harsh weather.

If you’ve owned your home for some time, you know its regular maintenance can be a challenge, too. Something always needs to be fixed or you’re looking to make a few small improvements.

But, if you’re like most people, it’s the decision when to make the big home improvements that is the most difficult.

Are you ever really sure when your home might need new faucets or piping? Do you know if it’s the right time to replace your furnace or air conditioner? When should you update your electrical panel? These are questions that all homeowners wrestle with and they often simply wait until that part of their home fails, and are forced to make a decision.

Replacing a roof is another big question you may struggle with. A new roof can be a large but necessary investment. It provides you with shelter and keeps the contents of your home dry and unharmed. Waiting too long to have your roof replaced could be a huge gamble.

The next big storm could be the one that results in major damage to your roof… and home.

You could call a roofing contractor today and ask his opinion of your roof. But how do you know if he’s telling you the truth? How do you know what he suggests is what really needs to be done?

In the back of your mind, you’re concerned that you may be getting taken advantage of. You don’t have to live with that feeling any longer.

If you’re unsure of whether or not your roof is in top condition, may need some repair, or should be completely replaced, log onto www. repairvsreplace.com.

While on the site, you can enter your roof’s essential information. It will ask its age, condition, amongst other things. After submitting your information, the site will calculate your roof’s score. Based upon its score, it will identify whether your roof may be a candidate for repair or replacement.

Should your score indicate that your roof may need work, the site also provides you with a list of credible roofing companies that you can trust to inspect it; they’re called Roof Response Teams.

Centennial Roofing is part of the nationwide Roof Response Team. If you’re concerned about your roof, you can contact us directly at 972-223-1765. We’ll send a highly trained technician to inspect every aspect of your roof from your gutters and skylights to your shingles and attic. By the end of his evaluation, you’ll receive a comprehensive report on that status of your roof.

Owning a home is a big responsibility that has a number of challenges. Knowing when your roof should be repaired or replaced shouldn’t be one. Log onto www.repairvsreplace.com or contact us at Centennial Roofing to get an honest assessment on your roof.

Planning on working around your home this weekend? Here's some helpful household tips from your friends at Centennial Roofing!

Planning on working around your home this weekend? Here’s some helpful household tips from your friends at Centennial Roofing!

Crayon marks on walls? A damp rag, dipped in baking soda works wonderfully! Comes off with little effort (elbow grease that is)!

Permanent marker on appliances/counter tops? Use rubbing alcohol on a paper towel.

Blood stains on clothes? Not to worry! Just pour a little hydrogen peroxide on a cloth and proceed to wipe off every drop of blood. Works every time!

Place fabric softener sheets in dresser drawers and your clothes will smell freshly washed for weeks to come. You can also do this with towels and linen.

To easily remove burnt-on food from your skillet, simply add a drop or two of dish soap and enough water to cover the bottom of the pan, and bring it to a boil on your stove top.

Spray your Tupperware with nonstick cooking spray before pouring in tomato-based sauces and there won’t be any stains.

Use air-freshener to clean mirrors. It does a good job and better still, leaves a lovely smell to the shine.

Now look what you can do with Alka Seltzer. Clean a toilet. Drop in two Alka Seltzer tablets; wait twenty minutes, brush, and flush. The citric acid and effervescent action clean vitreous China.

Every second Sunday of May, throughout North America, millions of people celebrate Mother’s Day. Truthfully, it’s probably a holiday that should be celebrated at least several times a year.

If you’re like me, your mother played a large role in your life growing up. She was always supportive and loving. I like to think my mother was a big reason why I decided to start my own business and help others through a trade that I love.

More than ever, being a mother means that your day is packed with activity. You’re probably working while trying to keep up with your family and balancing your own personal life. So, of course, you don’t have much free time. And the last thing you need is your roof to spring a leak at the worst possible time!

However, if you haven’t had your roof inspected in some time, that’s exactly what you could be facing! And with each passing year, the percentages that your roof may experience a problem grow higher and higher!

Right now, if you have a roof that’s at least 10 years old and hasn’t been evaluated by a professional this year, call Centennial Roofing today!

To the mothers reading this: Not only should you receive a little tender love and care this second Sunday in May; we think your roof should, too! And after a roofing analysis, you can have the confidence knowing your roof will protect you from the elements all year long. That means you can go about your day and life… uninterrupted.

From Centennial Roofing, Happy Mother’s Day! And thank you for your business!

Sincerely, Steve Andersen

When a storm blows through our area, it brings more than just high winds and damaging hail. It also brings the dreaded “Storm Chaser.” Do you know who is working on your roof?

Storm Chasers are dialed into the Weather Channel and whenever a storm hits, they pack up and head to that area. They strike while the iron is hot and try to replace as many roofs as possible and then move to the next storm affected area.

Now, that’s all well and good, but they don’t necessarily care about the quality of the roof they install. Often, they don’t use discretion when hiring their crews. You could have an ex-convict or drug-user working on your home. And forget about them standing behind their work. Once they’re done working in one town, they jump to the next.

Unfortunately, many homeowners are left high and dry after their Storm Chaser contractor leaves town. They disconnect their phone number and any warranties they may have offered aren’t honored. If you’re reading this article, it’s highly likely you’re already a client of ours. We thank you for that…. However, you may have friends or family members who do not use our services.

If that’s the case, and you know that they’re thinking about having work performed to their roof, please pass along our name. You don’t want someone you care about to fall victim to a Storm Chaser. Work with someone who cares about our community. Call Centennial Roofing at 972-223-1765.

Learn a few quick tips from Centennial Roofing on how you can make sure your home’s exterior looks as spotless as its interior!

Spring brings the excitement of warm weather and longer days. It also brings with it a harsh reality. Spring means spring cleaning!

It’s time to dust off the list of projects you’ve been meaning to tackle; there’s deep cleaning the bathroom, vacuuming every inch of your home, and washing the walls. Spring cleaning may not be exciting, but your hard work is always rewarded. Afterward, the interior of your home sparkles! Why not apply the same amount of attention to the outside of your home?

After all, first impressions mean a great deal. It doesn’t matter how nice the inside of your residence appears if the outside looks dirty, worn, and tattered. And by maintaining the exterior of your home today, you may avoid large and expensive repairs that might need to be made in the future.

After you’ve scrubbed every inch inside your home, here are a few things you may want to consider doing to the outside of your home:

• Wipe down your windows. Wash your windows with a mix of a quarter cup of vinegar with a quart of cool water in a spray bottle. Use rolled up newspaper to wipe the windows down. Don’t worry, the newsprint won’t rub off, and it’s cheaper than paper towels. And remember to wipe from top to bottom!

• Re-grade around your foundation. If pools of water accumulate near your home, it’s only a matter of time before that water finds its way inside! Remove any sod or mulch from the depressed area with a shovel. Take additional soil and fill in the low spots. With a tamp, make sure that soil is packed tightly. Push the mulch or relay the sod on top of the new soil.

• Fill the cracks in your driveway. Clean all dirt from any cracks that exist and fi ll them with driveway patch, which can be found at any hardware store. Smooth over the cracks with a trowel. After it sets, hose off the driveway and mix up a driveway sealer. Poor the sealer in a line down the center of the driveway. Use a squeegee to spread it out evenly and thinly. While doing this, make sure you have plastic bags wrapped around your feet, so as not to ruin your shoes.

• Fix, lubricate, and seal any doors. Inspect all the doors in your home; this includes screen doors and garage doors. Lubricate the hinges and springs with a light household oil. Take a moment to look for any gaps that might exist around your doors and their frames. If you can see light peeking through that means air is leaking through, as well. Use backer rods and/ or caulk to fill in those small spaces.

• Remove rust from any metal surfaces. Rust always seems to find its way on railings and other metal surfaces exposed to the elements. Should you find rust, take a wire brush and scrape as much of the loose rust off as possible. Brush it to the bare metal, if possible. Next, apply a metal primer to the affected area. Finish by painting it with a rust-resistant paint.

• Trim your grass, bushes, and trees. Nothing can make a home look worse than tall grass and overgrown bushes and trees. Be sure to cut your grass regularly, so that it doesn’t become a large project. Also, cut back your hedges, bushes, and trees every few months.

• Power wash your home’s exterior. Storms can blow dirt, leaves, and debris against your house causing discoloration. Rent a power washer, hook it up to your hose, and thoroughly wash and clean your brick walls. If you have siding, be sure to set your power washer on a lower setting. Once you’ve finished spray-cleaning your home, be sure to power wash your deck and privacy fence, too.

You don’t have to be contractor, or even a handyman, to perform much of this work. At most, you’ll need to run down to the local hardware store, ask a few questions, and be on your way.

One thing you may need some assistance with – and you should have done – is having your gutters cleaned and repaired and your roof evaluated.

At Centennial Roofing, one of our highly trained technicians can come to your home, clean your gutters, tighten them if they seem to be pulling away from your home, and then give you an honest evaluation of your roof’s health. Winter can be extremely difficult on roofs; it can cause shingles to rip off, decay, or become extremely weak.

Call us at Centennial Roofing today at 972-223-1765, and you can see for yourself how we can help. We’ll be more than happy to take that bit of spring cleaning off your hands!

Find out how one little look at your roof can tell you a lot about its condition!

If you’re like me, you absolutely hate it. You’re driving along down the road when out of the blue, a little light kicks on your dashboard. It reads “Service Soon.”

My stomach automatically drops when I read those two little words. But as soon as I see them, I’m on the phone with my mechanic scheduling an appointment. While I hate it when one of the lights on my car’s dashboard lights up, I’m still grateful that those little lights are there. It allows me to get my car repaired before it breaks down. Being stranded on the side of the road isn’t a pleasant thought!

Unfortunately, most oncoming troubles don’t come with a little dashboard warning lights. You have to learn about the problem the hard way… when it happens. Thankfully, your roof doesn’t have to work that way.

You may not realize it, but your roof may be giving you some major early indicators that it needs some help… right NOW… before a major leak springs and douses your plasma TV or family heirlooms with water!

Want to know what those early warning signs are? They’re actually easier to identify that you might think. When you have a moment, take a stroll outside your home. Walk far enough away from it, until you can clearly see your roof.

Does anything pop out at you? Do you notice any dark patches, streaks, or blotches? Can you see any missing shingles or loose flashing along your chimney? Or do any shingles, shakes, or tiles appear to be cracked, split, or curling?

You may not be a roofing expert, but you’re an intelligent human being. Anything that looks out of the ordinary on your roof is an early warning sign that a bigger, much more serious problem may be festering below! Any imperfections or odd-appearing marks may be a sign that the soft underbelly of your roof is being exposed to the elements!

In other words, water has an easy-to-access highway through your roof and into your home! If after looking at your roof you notice something suspicious, call Centennial Roofing at 972-223-1765.

We’ll gladly send an experienced roofing technician to your home to perform a thorough roofing analysis. Even if you can’t identify any immediate problems with your roof, it’s wise to have a professional evaluate your roof annually, especially if it’s five or more years old.

Trust us… It’s much better to catch a little imperfection now, rather than have a gaping hole in your roof. So, don’t ignore the warning signs your roof is giving you! Eliminate those small problems before the spring storms start rolling in and leaving you with a huge mess!

It’s a time honored tradition amongst families all across the country. Every December, when the kids are out of school, everyone packs their suitcases and bags and leaves town for the annual Christmas vacation. No matter if it’s a three-day visit to your parent’s home or a ten-day long excursion to Grandma’s farm, everyone looks forward to it.

Hopefully, by the time you return from your family vacation, you will have spent some quality time with your loved ones and will be nice and relaxed. The last thing you ever should have to worry about is coming home to a giant mess. Yet that’s what happens to thousands of homeowners each year!

Unsuspecting people pull into their driveways after being gone for an extended period, open their front doors, and are hit with a sight and a smell that nearly knocks them over. What happened? Their roof leaked, and because no one was home, the rain water has been soaking into their home for days. It’s created an unspeakable amount of damage, and that awful rain water smell is sure to linger for months.

Most people never expect any part of their roof to leak. You never plan on finding your new television covered with water or your new area rug soaked . . . But it happens, and it happens at the worst possible times. The only way to stop something like this from occurring is to stop the problem before it becomes one. In other words, be proactive about your roof!

Outside of random acts of God, almost all roofing emergencies can be prevented with regular maintenance. By having a roofing inspection performed at least once a year, your roof can be evaluated for any signs of deficiencies. You can discover if flashing is damaged or underlayment exposed and allowing water to soak through your roof and into your attic. And during that inspection, all elements of your roof are checked, including the attic and your insulation. You should know precisely how your roof is holding up.

Before finalizing your Christmas vacation plans, give Centennial Roofing a call at 927-223-1765, and make sure you have your roof inspected. This is an ideal service to have done, especially if one hasn’t been performed on your home in years. Call today!

Did you know that there's a way for you to determine if your roof is a candidate for potential replacement or if it may only need a few small tweaks to remain solid for years to come?

There’s no doubt that these economic times are tough. More than ever, it’s making sense for people to remain in their current homes, rather than seeking a new one. You can see how this widespread decision is playing its part in a lagging housing market. Now is definitely not the time to be selling.

If you’re planning on remaining in your current home for some time, it’s of course necessary to stay up with any upkeep issues. You want to ensure that your home remains in great shape for two big reasons. The first being it’s your home! It’s a piece of property that you should have a great deal of pride in owning. It’s the place where you raise a family and entertain friends. It’s part of who you are.

The other reason why you want to keep your home in great shape also makes sense. Your home is a major asset. You want to do everything possible to keep the value of that asset high. Should you ever want to sell your home, the small repairs and improvements you make to it today will allow you to put a higher price tag on it in the future. The more money you can retrieve from this home can mean more money to put towards an even bigger and better next home.

Part of keeping your home in great shape involves minding the quality and shape of the roof that sits on top of it. A well-constructed roof means your home and all of your possessions are safe from Mother Nature. It also can add significantly to the value of a home, so should you want to sell it one day, that’s something a potential buyer will want to know.

Thankfully, ensuring that you have a strong roof doesn’t mean that you need a new one! Quite the opposite! Even if your roof is 10 years old, it may only need some small routine improvements. Those adjustments could add many, many more years to your roof’s life.

Now, there’s a way for you to determine if your roof is a candidate for potential replacement or if it may only need a few small tweaks to remain solid for years to come! Repair vs. Replace offers quizzes for tile roofs, shingle or wood shake roofs, and flat roofs. Once you’re on the site, you can take a brief quiz on your roof. To receive the quiz that best fits your roof, you’ll be asked a few preliminary questions. It will even ask you where you heard about the quiz, so please be sure to select Centennial Roofing.

Upon reaching the quiz, there will only be a few more easy questions, it will ask your roof’s age and condition, amongst other things. After submitting your information, the site will calculate your roof’s score. Based upon its score, it will identify whether your roof is in perfect condition or may be a candidate for repair or replacement.

If you have questions or concerns about how your roof scored, feel free to give us a call at Centennial Roofing at 972-223-1765. We can explain why your roof tested the way it did. We can also send a technician to your home to an in-person analysis of its status.

If you’re looking to stay in your home for an extended period of time, and you’re questioning the strength of your roof, take the short quiz. You’ll receive your results in minutes. And it might give you the peace of mind you’ve been seeking.

Concerned about your home’s upcoming roofing project? Don’t be worried! Let Centennial Roofing help you prepare.

11. Watch out for your attic.
Items stored in your attic may encounter dust and debris during the removal of an existing roof. It is important to remember to be careful when opening the attic hatch in case any shifting occurs.

12. Be aware of any electrical issues.
Occasionally, the power tools used to install your new roof may trip circuit breakers. If any circuit breakers are tripped inside the home, it could cause a potentially dangerous situation if medical equipment is being used. Please make sure any precautionary actions are taken to prevent any unfortunate situations.

13. Accidents do happen, but preparation helps keep them at a bare minimum.
Roofing is major construction and some accidents do occur; however, a quality conscious contractor should know how to prevent most of these incidents. Therefore, Centennial Roofing will cover A/C units, windows and screens, move lawn furniture and do our best to be consistently professional and courteous at all times.

14. Protect your gutters.
Centennial uses “U” shaped attachments to keep ladders from damaging gutters. These attachments prevent the ladders from coming in contact with the gutters and also stabilize the ladder for the crew’s safety. Even though very few contractors take the precautionary measures we do, please understand that a small amount of scratches and minor dents are sometimes unavoidable.

15. Get your yard ready.
For their protection, we ask that you keep cars, boats, and trailers away from the area and out of the driveway during installation. Additionally, we will need access to all areas of your yard for cleanup. Please remove pets from your backyard and have all gates unlocked for this purpose.

Make sure you are ready for a new roof installation on your home by following these practical tips from Centennial Roofing!

Make sure you are ready for a new roof installation on your home by following these practical tips from Centennial Roofing!

6. Prepare your home for vibration
Loose or breakable items should be removed from the walls and shelves before your roofing job begins to protect them from damage. The vibration will cause dust to fall through light fixtures, A/C vents, and other ceiling penetrations. Also, it is best not to have anyone who has allergies or asthma present during the installation process.

7. Get ready to hear some noise
Construction is extremely noisy. Be mentally prepared for the sound of constant hammering, sawing, and foot traffic for two or more days, depending on the size of your roof.

8. Protect your landscaping
Centennial Roofing understands the time and expense in the upkeep of your landscaping. In order to minimize any damage, turn off automatic sprinkler systems a day or two before the installation begins to protect your lawn against foot traffic. Also, it is extremely wise to mow your lawn the day before installation begins. This allows for a much more thorough clean up.

9. Trim your trees
Trees can be a major cause of the premature wearing of a roof. Besides damaging shingles, leaf debris building up in the valley areas can cause shingles to deteriorate and promote algae growth. If your trees need to be trimmed in order to keep limbs off the roof, please do so before the project begins.

10. Protect your family’s restroom privacy
Skylights must be removed in order to properly reflash them. When the domes are removed, occasionally the tape and bedding stuck to the inside of the skylight frame cracks and peels slightly. This is unavoidable especially in the case of bathroom and kitchen skylights. Additionally, if your home has bathroom skylights, please remember to schedule bathing times appropriately.

You have hired a roofing contractor, the construction crews are set to arrive, and before you know it, your home will have a new roof.

But what do you need to do beforehand to prepare your house? Here’s some preparation tips from Centennial Roofing.

1. Pre-Inspections are Critical
Before installation begins, our professional roof consultants will do a complete inspection of your home’s interior, exterior and attic space. Your family’s safety is the most important issue to us and as you read further you will learn why these inspections are critical in that regard.

2. Watch Out for Illegally Run Electrical Lines
Electrical wires strung up and over your roof’s rafters are fire hazards. Fasteners penetrating the wire insulation can cause a short circuit resulting in a fire. Vaulted ceilings with canned lights and HVAC power lines are the most common problem areas. Centennial Roofing’s professional consultants can help you identify these problems before they become hazards.

3. Carbon Monoxide is Poisonous
During the installation process roofing crews will need to flash the gas exhaust vents to the new roof. It is important to know that even the slightest disturbance on the roof can dislodge the elbows and fittings of exhaust vents in your attic or closet area without the crews’ knowledge. This can cause a deadly carbon monoxide leak. Centennial’s roofing consultants will take significant cautions to prevent this from happening and will discuss any potential problems you might encounter.

4. Keep Your Children & Pets Safe

Roofing your home creates a temporary construction site that children find absolutely intriguing. Because most of the material and equipment are extremely dangerous, it is important to remind children of the hazards. Also, it’s crucial to make sure that your pets remain safely contained as well.

5. Protect Your Pool or Spa
Pools and spas can be damaged by roofing debris. Nails can stain the plaster or damage the vacuum equipment. For your protection, our quality crews will tarp the pool and spa. We do, however, recommend that pool pumps be turned off during installation and that a pool cleaning be scheduled after your new roof is installed. SAFETY WARNING! Keeping your family members away from the tarped pool is imperative.

Centennial Roofing was proud to partner with WBAP and the Sean Hannity Freedom Concert event on August 21 at the Allen Center.

Since 2003, over $10 million has been raised for the Freedom Alliance Scholarship Fund through the Freedom Concerts and generous donations from the Sean Hannity Show and its listeners. The Scholarship Fund is designated for the education of children of U.S. service members who have been killed or 100% permanently disabled in an operational mission or training accident. It was our pleasure to help support the efforts of those making a difference in the lives of these special young people.

See photos from our special evening with Sean Hannity, musicians Michael W. Smith and Charlie Daniels, Governor Rick Perry, Congresswoman Michele Bauchman, actor Jon Voight, the crew from WBAP, and many of the wonderful patriots in the Dallas, Arlington, and Fort Worth areas!
